Resolution and image quality
A PDF page is made of vector instructions, not pixels, so converting it to JPG means rendering the page at a chosen resolution. This tool renders at 2x scale, which doubles the pixel dimensions compared with the page's nominal size. That extra detail keeps text and thin lines looking crisp rather than soft, and the result is sharp enough for on-screen viewing, sharing and everyday printing.
JPG is used for the output because it produces compact files that open everywhere, which is ideal for sharing and embedding. The trade-off is that JPG is a lossy format, so very fine text can show slight softening on close inspection.
