720p versus 1080p, and cropping notes
720p and 1080p share the same 16:9 aspect ratio, so anything that fits one fits the other — 1280×720 simply contains fewer pixels and therefore makes a smaller, faster file. Choose 720p when speed and size matter more than maximum sharpness on a large screen, and step up to 1920×1080 when the image will be shown full-screen on a monitor or TV. Because most phone photos are 4:3 rather than 16:9, forcing them straight to 1280×720 stretches them; to avoid that, tick Keep ratio and enter only the width (1280), or crop to 16:9 first. Scaling down to 720p always looks crisp, while enlarging a tiny image up to this size will look soft.
